From Shuaibu Zubair Tatu, Birnin Kebbi
Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has directed the former minister of special duties, Barrister Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) to retract his pronouncement of General Ishaya Bamaiyi (rtd) as Campaign Council Director General for the party ahead of it’s presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku visit to the state.
State chairman of the party, Alhaji Usman Bello Suru during a press briefing at the campaign office of the Governorship Candidate of the party, Gen Aminu Bande in Birnin Kebbi said the statement credited to the former minister lacks merit and true position of things in the party in kebbi State he therefore directed the minister to withdraw it forthwith.
He said “A presidential campaign structure has been established in Kebbi State as directed by the national leadership of the party one month ago. The Presidential Campaign Council is to be chaired by Dr Bello Haliru Muhammed, a former national chairman of the PDP, former BOT chairman and former minister of the federal republic of Nigeria.
“The Vice Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council in Kebbi States is General Aminu Bande (rtd), PDP governorship candidate in the state.
“It is, therefore, incorrect and uncharitable for Kabiru Tanimu to insinuate to the general public and members of the PDP in particular that General Ishaya Bamaiyi is the Director General of the PDP Presidential campaign council in Kebbi State.”
The chairman added that members of the presidential campaign council as directed by the national headquarters of the party in the state had been duly served with their appointment letters. “But surprisingly, the former minister is coming to tell members of the party in Kebbi state an entirely different story,” he said.
While responding to questions from journalists the party chairman explained that the former minister had granted an interview to national newspapers where he said Bamaiyi has been appointed as the presidential campaign director general for PDP in Kebbi State. “But we wish to state categorically that this exists only in the figment of the imagination of Kabiru Tanimu”, Suru maintained.
He appealed to PDP members in the state and general public to disregard the said interview by Tanimu urging them to refrain from taking any action and remain calm as leadership of the party is already taking necessary steps to address the matter
