Top 5 most titled African football teams

Teams from Africa have never won the football world championship, but national teams from this continent periodically make small sensations, beating the giants. There were always enough talented athletes there. But what can I say – in some of the strongest European teams (we will not show a finger), the backbone of the team is made up of ethnic immigrants from Africa. It remains only to imagine how these yesterday’s boys would play football in their homeland, if there were appropriate material conditions. Football would definitely benefit from this even more.

  1. Ivory Coast

The national team of this country made its way to the World Cup three times in a row, starting in 2006. True, it never managed to rise beyond the group stage, although Didier Drogba played remarkably as part of the national squad. Then the Moroccans blocked the road to the championship in Russia for this original team. The Ivorians did not get a ticket to the upcoming championship in Qatar.

  1. Nigeria

For the first time, the Nigerian national team appeared in the final tournament of the World Cup in 1994. And she immediately created a sensation – in the group she managed to take first place, beating the Argentina national team. In the 1/8 finals I had to meet with the Italian team. Until the last minutes of the match, the Nigerians were in the lead, but Roberto Baggio nevertheless equalized the score, and then scored the winning goal. Four years later, Nigeria reached the round of 16 again, but were stopped by the Danes. And then there was a victory at the Olympic Games in Atlanta.

  1. Ghana

The national team of this country at the World Cup was able to reach the quarterfinals. At the stage of the 1/8 finals, the Ghanaians stopped the US team. It was in 2010. And four years before that, in the 1/8 finals, the Ghana national team was not allowed further by the Brazilian team. In 2014, the Ghana national team met with the Americans again, but already in the group stage of the final tournament. This time, the US team took revenge and did not let the Africans into the playoff series.

  1. Cameroon

The peak of success for the Cameroon national team was in 1990. Then, with great difficulty, the team made it to the finals of the World Cup in Italy. The team was coached by Valery Nepomniachtchi, a Soviet coach of the Asian school. In the first match, his wards beat the Argentina national team, led by Diego Maradona. Then they beat the Romanian team. This was followed by a defeat from the SSR team with a score of 0: 4, but it no longer decided anything – Cameroon had the first place in the group. In the 1/8 finals, the Colombians were already defeated. And in the quarterfinals of the Africans in a bitter struggle, the British still won with a score of 3:2.

  1. Egypt

One of the oldest teams on the continent. Already in 1928, the Egyptian team reached the semi-finals of the Olympic tournament. And in 1934, the Egyptians were the first of the African teams to become a member of the FIFA World Cup. But the next time the team got to the world tournament was in 1990, and with virtually no achievements. But in the African Cup of Nations, the Egyptian team has won seven times.
