Elder Korinjo, father of detained medical doctor dies at 72

Elder Mathias Ashiekaa Korinjo, 72, a hypertensive patient, succumbed to death at the early hours of Monday at a private hospital in Makurdi as a result of trauma he has been going through since the arrest and detention, alleged torture and mistreatment of his son, Dr. James Terseer Korinjo, a medical doctor and team leader of Medicine De Monde (MDM) at GTS clinic Damboa, in the hands of the Borno State Police Command for over a month.

A family source said a petition to the Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr. George Akume, and the Inspector General of Police as well as the member representing Jeichira at the House of Representatives calling their respective attentions to the alleged inhuman treatment been melted to Dr. Korinjo for the past one month in detention.

Dr. James Terseer Korinjo, according to a petition signed by Engr. Martins Korinjo for the Korinjo family, had uncovered gross misconduct, fraudulent, and illegal medical malpractices in the Clinic where he is a Medical Doctor/Team Lead. The issues he raised concerns for the safety and welfare of the indigenes of the community who access these medical services, this did not sit well with the organisation (MDM).

Dr. Terseer was then allegedly singled out for victimisation, persecuted, and hunted by his colleagues in the organisation who planned to eliminate him to cover their unprofessional medical misconducts.

“The accumulation of these various acts of victimisation against Dr. Terseer lead to an outburst and a mob attack on his life on the night of Sunday the 17th day of March 2024 with brutal attacks on Dr. Terseer which continued up to the early hours of Monday the 18th day of March 2024 when the Police came to the scene of the all-night mob attack on the life of Dr. Korinjo”.

The assailants that attacked Dr. Korinjo connived with the Police to arrest and detain him at the maximum Police detention facilities in the Borno State Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) from the 18th day of March till date.

The family found out when they visited Dr. Korinjo at the Borno State Police Command that, “he is daily tortured, brutalized, dehumanized, and assaulted at the maximum Police detention facility in a bid to eliminate his life to cover the unprofessional and illegal medical practices he uncovered”.

The elder Korinjo, a managing partner, and financial consultant’s health got aggravated and caused his death, the result of the unlawful and prolonged detention of his son for the past one month by the Borno State Police Command in active connivance with Medicine De Monde (MDM).
