CP Yabanet assumes office as Benue new Commissioner of Police

A new Commissioner of Police to Benue State, CP. Hassan Steve Yabanet, FCID, psc (+) has assumed duty as the Commissioner for the Benue state Police Command, pledging commitment to use his wealth of experience to fight crime and ensure safety of lives and property in the state.

A statement by SP. Anene Sewuese Catherine, the Command’s Police Public’s Relations Officer said, CP. Yabanet who hails from Zangon-kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna state, is a 1989 graduate of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

A member of Chartered Institute of Diplomacy and International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the new Benue State Commissioner of Police was enlisted into the prestigious Nigeria Police Academy as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on 18th May, 1992.

The veteran officer has served in various capacities across the country since his enlistment into Force. Some of the positions he held include; Divisional Police Officer Obi Division in 2002, Personal Assistant to the AIG zone 4 in the year 1997, Commander 41 PMF Dramaturu from 2008 to 2011.

CP Yabanet was also Commander Federal Tax Force on NNPC Pipeline Protection Port Harcourt, 2007, Area Commander Nsukka, Enugu state, Area Commander Zonal Headquarters, Lagos, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Director of Training, Police Academy, Wudil, Kano and Deputy Commissioner of Police CID, Kwara State Command.

He was promoted to the rank of a Commissioner of Police on 1st July, 2023 and posted as CP Administration Department of Training and Development, Force Headquarters, Abuja.He last served as CP plateau State Police Command before his posting to Benue state as the 42nd Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command.

The new CP has an enormous task of ridding the state of crime. Only last week, a former Chief of Staff to the immediate past administration, Pastor Terwase Orbunde, was shot, his wife and maid kidnapped and has just been released.
