The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Embassy in Nigeria has donated 50 tonnes of Dates to Nigeria.
Speaking with some journalists at the Saudi Arabia Embassy in Maitama Abuja over the weekend, the H.E. Mr. Faisal Ebraheem Alghamdi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Nigeria stated that “As part of its continued commitments that focuses on alleviating the sufferings of all people in distress and to fulfill it’s humanitarian pioneering role all over the world decided to hand over 50tonnes of Dates to the friendly and brotherly government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
According to the Ambassador, over the years, the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi, through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (K SRelief), has been providing necessary humanitarian assistance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria at different fields, the most recent is the execution of Et’am 3 Initiative in March 2024 through distribution of food baskets to 5606 beneficiaries in Kano, JIgawa, Katsina, Borno and Abuja at the coat of $400,000.
He said, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre carried out a medical diagnostic campaign in Abuja, Kano and Lagos in the last quarter of 2023, in which different medical procedures were offered free of charge to Nigerians. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in strengthening the bilateral relations between our two countries at all levels is committed to continue to provide all necessary humanitarian relief and aids to Nigeria for the betterment and interest of the brotherly and friendly Nigerian people.”
While receiving the donations, Ambassador Murtala Jimoh, the Deputy Director Middle East and Gulf Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, expressed gratitude to the government of Saudi Arabia, saying that Nigeria and its people were thankful for the act of kindness and the Dates will be distributed according.
Ambassador Jimoh said, “The cultural relationship have existed even before the independence of both countries. We have the religious tourism which has been the core relationship in the past. In the present administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he placed emphasis on a cordial and strategic relationship with the government of Saudi Arabia through the Crown Prince and various areas of partnerships were discussed.”
Ambassador Jimoh also noted that both countries are strategic countries in their respective regions.
