A Civil Society Organisation Stayalert Human Right Awareness Initiative, has scored the administration of President Bola Tinubu high on security.
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Director, Publicity, Amechi Chuks Oyema, lauded the Tinubu-Shettima presidency for providing the military with the enabling environment to turn the tide against insecurity in the country.
The group also lauded the Armed Forces of Nigeria led by General Christopher Musa for the successes recorded in the fight against insecurity by the military as a result of his emphasis on synergy.
“We want to use this opportunity to laud the CDS for the synergy seen in the Armed forces. It is indeed highly commendable. This is why positive results are coming out from the different theatres of operation,” he said.
Oyema said the group’s investigation revealed that terrorists, insurgents and other criminals are feeling the heat as a result of intensive military operations across the country.
“Over 4,600 hostages have been freed, more than 9,300 hostiles neutralized, and over 7,000 terrorists and bandits arrested.
“We can boldly say that in the past one year, the security situation has improved.
“The stay at home in the South-East has fizzled out. People in that region are now more relaxed, likewise in the North-East and North-West. We can’t but commend the AFN,” he said.
According to him, in the past one year, several terrorists, particularly high caliber commanders have surrendered to troops.
This he said can be attributed to the intensified military operations.
He also lauded the military for being a beacon of democracy under General Musa.
“We can attest that the Armed forces of Nigeria has not just said it is loyal to the constitution of the country, the leadership has continued to stress that democracy is the best. We commend the CDS for using every opportunity to affirm their loyalty to the constitution,” he said.
Speaking on efforts of the military in fight against economic sabotage in the Niger Delta, the group said the relentless pursuit of oil thieves by troops of the AFN is highly commendable.
“From what the AFN is doing, the economic saboteurs have no option but to abandon their illicit activities. And off course, the economy is benefitting as stealing of our Commonwealth is being blocked,” he said.
Speaking further, the group spokesman commended the Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA) for its humanitarian activities saying it would go a long way to boost morale of troops in the frontline.
“StayAlert is using this opportunity to commend the leadership of DEPOWA for what they are doing. Our serving troops, retired and families of fallen heroes have benefited from the different empowerment programmes of this body.
“It is a morale booster to troops engage in military operations that their today and tomorrow is covered.
“Madam DEPOWA, wife of the CDS, we appreciate you. Within a very short time, you have made tremendous difference in the lives of families of serving officers and departed heros,” he said.
