A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and former General-Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Afam Osigwe, has emerged as the president-elect in the 2024 NBA general election.
The 2024 NBA election was held online and was monitored by our correspondents.
The Voting began at 12am on Saturday and ended at 11.59pm same day, with the updated live results for all positions automatically uploaded and summed up on the election website of the Nigerian legal practitioners: https://go.ecnba.org/results/.
As at 12am on Sunday, Mr. Osigwe had secured 20,395 votes, defeating his closest rival, the Chairman of the NBA-Institute of Continuing Legal Education Governing Council, Barr. Tobenna Erojikwe, who polled 10,970 votes, while a former NBA Lagos Branch Chairman, Barr. Chukwuka Ikwuazom (SAN), garnered 9,007 votes.
Osigwe is set to succeed the outgoing president, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), after the appropriate body had confirmed the results of the election and the handing over formalities concluded.
Mr. Osigwe, an affable, always smiling courteous unassuming legal practitioner, is said to be admired by lawyers across the country and other Nigerians who have come across him as a fine gentleman and hardworking personality.
“His unassuming disposition and ready-to-assist attitude are what largely won the votes for him”, according to his colleagues interviewed by this medium.
