October 5 Rivers LG Polls: Frontline chairmanship candidate picks woman as running mate

By Emma Okereh

As the October 5 local government area election in Rivers State approaches, a leading aspirant on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Ambassador Dagogo Fubara, has decided to pick a woman as his running mate, declaring that he will continue to accord full respect and honor to women.

Fubara, who is contesting for the chairmanship of Bonny Local Government Area, while speaking with the media on Thursday explained that his decision to pick a woman as his running mate was borne out of his conviction that Bonny needs motherly care to help him actualize his “New Bonny” dream.

The former Director General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Assembly Forum (ASAF) assured that he would work hard to implement the 35 percent affirmative action by ensuring that more women are included in his administration if he emerges as Bonny Local Government Area Chairman.

“I have given this project considerable thought and concluded that we cannot realize our dream for a new Bonny without our mothers playing a major role.

“My team is blessed with very passionate mothers who share the same interest in the well-being of our dear local government area.

“Already, the campaign council has settled on a committed, passionate, and hardworking woman who will pair with me as the Vice-Chairmanship candidate as we march on to actualize our ‘New Bonny’ dream. We made this decision out of respect for our mothers, and we will not stop there, as we will continue to work closely with the women of our local government area, knowing that they hold the key to our dream.”He said.

Recall that following the expiration of the three-year tenure of the elected LG officers in the state, the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has fixed October 5 as the date for the conduct of the local government area elections in the state.
