An All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairmanship Aspirant in Anambra state, Chief Ikechukwu C Anonye has expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the people and government of Borno state government.
This followed the flood disaster that hit the state on Tuesday that rendered over one million innocent citizens homeless with properties worth billions of Naira destroyed.
In a statement made available to The Authority, Anonye asked governments at various levels to be proactive in fulfilling its promises as well as tackling potential disasters before they happen.
While thanking the federal government for its speedy intervention, he advised that regular maintenance and inspection of critical infrastructure like dams are crucial to preventing such catastrophy.
The statement reads in part:
“I extend my heartfelt sympathies to the government and people of Borno state over the devastating flood disaster that occurred on Tuesday, 10th September 2024. The collapse of the dilapidated Alau dam has rendered over one million innocent citizens homeless and caused destruction of properties worth billions of naira.
“My thoughts are with the affected families and individuals during this difficult time. I urge the government to take immediate action to provide relief and support to those affected.
“Furthermore, I call on the government to be proactive in fulfilling its responsibilities to prevent such disasters from recurring. Regular maintenance and inspection of critical infrastructure like dams are crucial to preventing such catastrophic events.
“May God comfort and strengthen the people of Borno State in this challenging time”, he prayed.
