Poised by the extent of erosion menace in Imo State, especially in Ideato North and South local government areas, Senator Samuel Anyanwu has accused Governor Hope Uzodimma’s led APC government in of deliberately allowing the erosion menace to continue to destroy farmlands and properties of the people based on the government failure to comply with the contractual guidelines engaged with the World Bank.
Anyanwu who’s the State 2023 governorship candidate of People’s Democratic Party, PDP as well as the political party’s current National Secretary alleged that, “a proactive administration does not need any applause from the citizens before embarking on its constitutional responsibilities, but in the case of the APC led Imo state government, such obligations have been downplayed over personal gains”.
He further alleged that, “the APC administration in the state is insensitive, non-proactive, and irresponsible. A situation where the people of Ideato nation and other parts of the state finds it difficult to access the State capital on a motorable road, despite huge resources available to the government is most unwholesome, pathetic and injurious to the fortunes of the State.
“It is debasing that a contract initiated by previous administrations with the World Bank for the control of erosion menace in Ideato axis was flagrantly and arbitrarily terminated by Uzodimma’s administration simply because the government’s request to supervise the project and payment of N500 million counterpart fund was disallowed by the World Bank” he pointed out.
The PDP chieftain also said it point blank that, “if this government could treat the masses this way, what other dividends of democracy will Uzodimma’s administration offer to Imo people after displaying high level of ignominy, slur, infamy, intense dislike and utter abandonment of a N10 billion erosion control project in Urualla?
“It is regretable to posit that if Uzodinma’s APC-led administration had allowed this project to continue, the issue of the devastating erosion menace in Ideato North and South LGAs would have been tackled. The government should consider the fact that it was elected to hold power in trust for the people and stop behaving as if Imo people do not have any stake in the State” he insisted.
