The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and the Nigerian Data Protection Commission (NDPC) have forged a partnership to safeguard personal and corporate data within the exporting sector.
The collaboration aims to enhance data security, ensuring that Nigerian exporters remain competitive in global markets.
Speaking in Abuja, while receiving in her office the National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatuniji, the Executive Director/CEO of NEPC, Nonye Ayeni, emphasized the importance of protecting sensitive data as the country’s exporters fulfill international contracts for Made-in-Nigeria products.
She said that ensuring proper data protection measures would boost Nigeria’s trade credibility and attract more Foreign Direct Investments (FDI).
In a statement signed by Ndubueze Okeke, Head of Corporate Communications at NEPC, on Wednesday, Ayeni stressed that protecting exporters’ data would help secure positive endorsements from the global business community.
National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to safeguarding data privacy and preventing misuse of personal information. He noted that the NDPC’s mission is to collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure the secure handling of personal data and promote fair business practices.
Olatunji urged NEPC to establish a dedicated data protection unit to oversee the processing of exporters’ data in compliance with legal and ethical standards. He further pledged NDPC’s support in providing capacity-building programs to help NEPC align with international best practices in data management.
