Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to the management and staff of the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper as the renowned media organization marks its 75th anniversary.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, Ododo commended the publication for its pivotal role in shaping public discourse and promoting transparency and accountability throughout its decades of operation.
The statement noted the Governor’s admiration for the legacy of responsible journalism maintained by the Nigerian Tribune, describing it as a hallmark that has earned the publication the trust and loyalty of readers across the country.
“Governor Ododo celebrates the enduring legacy of Nigerian Tribune Newspaper as exemplified in the practice of responsible journalism, which he noted has endeared the Newspaper to many of its readers in Nigeria,” the statement read.
Reaffirming the critical role of ethical journalism in strengthening democracy and the rule of law, the Governor highlighted the Tribune’s steadfast commitment to factual, balanced, and objective reporting despite challenges posed by the rise of misinformation and fake news.
Governor Ododo expressed hope that the landmark anniversary would inspire the publication to continue championing truth and professional ethics, which he described as essential to fostering a stable and sustainable democracy in Nigeria.
Founded on November 16, 1949, by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his wife, Hannah Dideolu, the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper has cemented its reputation as one of the country’s pioneering and most respected media institutions.
