A non-governmental group, Northern Women Association of Nigeria (NWAN), has praised Dr. Bello Matawalle, Minister of State for Defence, for his efforts in tackling insecurity in northern Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Monday, the association’s spokesperson, Rukayya Faruk Malun Fashi, attributed recent security improvements in the northern part of the country to the untirely efforts of Matawalle.
According to Rukayya, Matawalle’s interventions have significantly reduced kidnappings and improved security, allowing women to return to their daily activities without fear.
“Before now, we couldn’t go to farms or markets due to the fear of kidnappings and insecurity. But today, we can return to these activities with a sense of safety,” she said, noting a significant reduction in kidnappings following the minister’s intervention during his visit to Sokoto State
The group said Matawalle’s approach, which involves direct engagement with local communities and coordination among security agencies, has brought relief to many areas previously plagued by violence, adding that his initiatives have also bolstered security presence in vulnerable regions and reinforced efforts to combat banditry and kidnapping.
The association noted that Matawalle’s leadership has provided hope for residents, particularly women and farmers, who have borne the brunt of insecurity.
NWAN urged continued support for Matawalle’s initiatives, expressing confidence in his ability to sustain progress and expand security measures.
