The Ministry of Regional Development hosted a high-level delegation of the North East Development Commission on Abuja, where the Director General and CEO of the North East Development Commission (NEDC), Mr. Mohammed G. Alkali, presented an overview of the Commission’s notable achievements, alongside the challenges encountered during the execution of key projects in the region.
The Minister, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, commended the efforts of the North-East Development Commission, as he noted the critical role it plays in national development.
He, however, emphasised on the need for synergy, peace and harmony with a focus on enhanced collaboration and resource mobilisation for future development initiatives.
In the same vein, the Minister of State,, Hon. Uba Maigari Ahmadu, reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued support to ensure that the region’s development remains a priority on the Federal Government’s agenda.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib M.L. Belgore, reiterated the Ministry’s committment to facilitating sustainable growth in all regions of Nigeria as regards its ongoing development plans.
During his presentation, Mr. Alkali highlighted the Commission’s progress in fostering economic growth and development across the North-East region, which has been severely affected by insecurity and economic setbacks.
He provided detailed insights into the Commission’s efforts in improving infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare, contributing to regional stability and prosperity.
The Director General also acknowledged the numerous challenges faced by the Commission, particularly on issues that relate to security, constraints on funding, and logistical hurdles in executing development projects. Despite these challenges, he stated that the Commission remains committed to transforming the North-East into a vibrant, self-sustaining region.
The occasion was also attended by government officials, including members of the management teams of both the Ministry of Regional Development and the North-East Development Commission.
