EBHA committee visits development centres, assesses project performance

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government, Chieftaincy and EBSIEC Matters in continuation of it’s bid to ensure quality delivery of projects and adequate attention to the primary needs of the people has paid an oversight function visit to Echiaba, Ozibo, Mbeke and Ebonyi Development centers in Ebonyi Local Government Area of the State.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon Goodluck Obinna Mbam maintained that the visit was to liase with the Development Centers on how well to execute any project embarked upon and not to witch-hunt anybody adding that the visits will equally help the committee to know the areas of community welfare to be urgently attended to, which will be immediately communicated to the concerned authorities.

The visit which took them to Echiaba Development center saw the entire members of the Committee heaping praises and commendations on the coordinator of the Development Center , Hon Friday Oketa for embarking on human oriented projects which cut across Education, Infrastructure, Health, Transportation and Commerce.

He was exceptionally extolled for the cleanliness of the Development Center environment, the rural electrification of Orokeonuoha — Otereufe __ Okeuinyionu villages and sinking of boreholes at Otereufe and Ndiukabi villages of the Development Center.

Responding, the Coordinator of Echiaba Development Center Hon Friday Oketa said that he embarked on the Projects as a way to emulate the projects oriented State Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru and at the same time, to provide his people with the basic needs of life which made him to embark on the construction of roads, provision of pipe born water, rural electrification, workers welfare and provision of security for life and property.

At Ozibo Development Center, the story was negative as the committee expressed dissatisfaction on the performances of the coordinator Hon Mrs Susana Igboke Nwogbaga as the Projects embarked upon has no direction or focus.

The Committee then implored the coordinator to improve on her performances to ensure that the people in her Development Center benefitted from the present administration.

In her passionate appeal, a member of the Committee representing Ebonyi North East Constituency Hon Mrs Chinyere Nwogbaga said that all women in position of responsibilities should buckle up and do what is needful during thier tenure as the development of the society should not be left for the men alone.

The Management of the Development Center was directed to appear before the committee on Friday 11th February 2025 by 9am at EBHA Committee Room.

At Mbeke Development Center, the Coordinator of the Center, Hon Franklin Nwugwu was applauded for a job well done having renovated the Development Center, graded and constructed roads and bridges, payment of students busary and maintained power supply from Iziogo__ Ogbala –Nworie into the Development Center.

Responding, the Coordinator Hon Franklin Nwugwu appreciated the committee for recognizing his modest contributions and assured that the developmental spirits installed in some of them by the state Governor, Rt Hon Francis Ogbonnia Nwifuru will not be allowed to die.

At Ebonyi Development Center, the Committee told the management and staff of the Development Center that they were not for witch-hunting and expressed dissatisfaction on the presentation made by HOD works and directed the staff of the Center to ensure adequate productivity in thier jobs so as to achieve the dream progmmes and policies of the state government.

The Committee equally directed the management of the Development Center to appear before the Committee on Friday 11th February 2025 by 9am at EBHA Committee Room.

Responding the Coordinator of Ebonyi Development Center Hon Dr Destiny Nwodom said that he his administration has stepped down the State Governor’s People’s Charter of Needs to the grassroot as he has embarked on renovation works, grading and laterating of roads, bridge construction, classroom renovation at Abarigwe Primary School, payment of Busary awards and widow -care through the construction of a building for a widow at Omorodu Ishieke village.

Other members of the Committee who spoke include Prince Nkemka Okoro Onuma, Joseph Ununu, Lucas Arinze Chukwu, Victor Nwoke, Steve Orji Igwe, Chief Abiri Godwin Abiri, Ifeanyi Nwakpu, Barr Nwodo Aloysius Nwodo, Esther Agwu.
