By Abbanobi-Eku Onyekachi

Although he commended the efforts of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for providing security in Mangu, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi, but Governor Caleb Mudtwang of Plateau State has charged the officers and men of the Corps to be committed and loyal to the nation in their task of combating insecurity and restoring peace to various communities.

Addressing the 2022 Regular Intake at the Passing out Parade Ceremony as the Guest of Honour at the Command Headquarters of NSCDC in Plateau State, the governor applauded the Commandant-General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, for providing actionable policies that have enhanced the Corps in providing security for the good people of Plateau State and the nation at large.

In a press statement from the National Public Relation Officer, NSCDC, CSC Babawale Zaid Afolabi over the weekend, the Plateau State Governor who was represented by his Senior Special Adviser on Security, Brig-Gen. GG Shipi (rtd), described the Corps as one of the most reliable security agencies in the country.

In his remarks, the NSCDC CG said, the training of the personnel in the special Agro-Ranger Squad was part of efforts being emplaced by the Corps to curb the prevailing security situation in Plateau State specifically in the areas of tackling herders/farmers conflicts, just as he noted that Plateau state which according to him, is regarded as the “Home of Peace and Tourism”, has been confronted with security threats linked to disputes between the local farming communities and herders.

He therefore said that the attacks requires the setting up of additional security measures aimed at effectively checkmating the ugly trend.

In a welcome address, the  Plateau State Commandant, Alexander Bissa Barunde, hinted that the Corps in collaboration with the State Government and other security agencies were ready to establish strategic operational bases in various flashpoints in the state for quick response, even as he explained that the personnel have undergone comprehensive training which according to him, lasted for six months equipping them not only with technical skills but also with psychosocial and emotional intelligence necessary for effective non-kinetic responses.

There were goodwill messages from the GOC 3Div, Nigeria Army and STF Commander, Maj-Gen. A.E Abubakar, represented by the Garrison Commander Brig-Gen. M.K Sanda; the Commissioner of Police, CP Hassan Stephen Yabnet and the Emir of Kanam, HRH Alhaji Muhammad Muazu Muhammad.
