From Ifeoma Ejiofor, Nnewi

A middle-aged man simply identified simply as Onuora, has been arrested by operatives of the Inland Town Police Division, Onitsha, Anambra State, for allegedly raping a schoolgirl.

The suspect was arrested at the Ado Girls Secondary School, Onitsha, by security operatives who had been monitoring his movements.

A source claimed that the suspect had developed a pattern of laying ambush around the school premises, targeting his victims.

The Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charlse Soludo, has demanded that the suspect be detained.

Prof. Ngozi Chumkwuma-Udeh, the Commissioner for Education, stated in a statement, adding that the Governor specifically requested the suspect’s remand at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka while investigations into the alleged rape case continue.

“The suspect is currently detained at the Inland Town Police Division in Onitsha,” Prof. Chukwuma-Udeh confirmed.

Gov Soludo condemned the alleged act, vowing to exhaust all legal means to ensure justice is served.

He urged the people of Anambra to speak out against such despicable acts.

Recall that Anambra State Police Command had previously arrested and detained no fewer than 11 suspects in various cases of rape and defilement.
