…Unprecedented rollout begins with 400 trucks, tight security, and multi-sectoral oversight
Kaduna came to a standstill hours ago as Governor Uba Sani flagged off the largest fertilizer distribution scheme in the state’s history — a bold initiative targeting 100,000 smallholder farmers across the 23 local government areas.
The flag-off, which held at the iconic Murtala Square, witnessed a massive turnout of farmers, traditional rulers, clerics, security chiefs, and development partners — all converging to witness the launch of 400 truckloads of fertilizer, were distributed free- -of-charge to vulnerable farmers.
In a remarkable show of inclusivity and transparency, the planning and oversight committee featured a cross-section of eminent Nigerians, including elder statesman Gen. Zamani Lekwot (rtd), Islamic scholar Sheikh Mahmud Gumi, top ICT experts, media veterans, and representatives from labour unions and civil society groups. The effort was coordinated by the Kaduna State Commissioner of Agriculture, Murtala Dabo.
Governor Uba Sani, while addressing the crowd, declared that no farmer would be left behind, promising a fair, transparent, and security-backed distribution.
“Agriculture is the backbone of our economy. We’re empowering our farmers not just with words but with tools to succeed,” he said.
The governor added that while smallholders get theirs free, commercial farmers will access the same fertilizers at subsidized rates to boost food security and encourage large-scale farming.
This year’s programme follows the success of last year’s intervention, where over 120,000 farmers benefitted from 500 truckloads of fertilizer.
Security was tight, logistics seamless, and the mood — electric.
“Kaduna’s agricultural revolution is clearly in motion”, said the governor’s Chief of Staff – Malam Sani Liman Kila, speaking on the sidelines of the event
