Activist alleges NDLEA officials collude with drug barons

…Our distractors will always fail-NDLEA

By Our Reporter

A renown human rightactivist, Deji Adeyanju, has alleged that officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), collude with drug barons and in the process, make billions of naira every week.

Adeyanju raised the allegation in a post on his Facebook page, recently.

“The level of decay in NDLEA is sad. Some of these officers are making billions weekly by colluding with drug baron,” Adeyanju said in the Facebook post.

However, reacting to the post by Adeyenju, a media activist, Olasukanmi David, said: “You have to look at what transpired between the police and NDLEA in the handling of the two arrested drug traffickers at Enugu Airport to believe what Adeyanju said.

“Look at the arrest of Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne in Enugu Airport. The Police’s Intelligent Response Team, IGP-IRT arrested these two and handed them over with the drugs to NDLEA .

“What happened? The NDLEA, knowing these two were just fronts for drug barons that are paying the NDLEA, that they are part of, decided to set up Kyari and his team and went ahead to declare them wanted even when they had already reported themselves to the Police FIB after they were called to report following complaints from the NDLEA as a result of the set up.

“The 2 drug traffickers arrested by the police IRT and transferred to NDLEA were sentenced to just 2 years imprisonment for each of the 3 counts which is to run concurrently starting from the date of their arrest and in any correctional centre of their choice by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja through a plea bargain.

“So, Adeyanju’s statement is spot on. President Muhammadu Buhari can do his job and investigate the NDLEA, Otherwise things will get worse.”

The activist further decried the continuous media campaign saying, “what is happening now is massive media propaganda and false arrest of drug suspects for deception of the public,” Olasukanmi said.

Another activist and Executive Director of Initiative for Better Societal Enlightenment (IBSE), Ofilli Odey, a lawyer said: “Let’s look at the Police Investigation report with reference number CB:4099/FIB/FHQ/ABJ/VOL 4/462 dated 13/2/2022. It clearly mentioned the written confessional statements and the video confessions of the drug traffickers arrested by the Police IRT and transferred to NDLEA with the drug exhibits.

“The Report went further to transcribe the video confessions of the drug traffickers and requested that NDLEA should produce their indicted officers in Enugu Airport.

“The NDLEA received the Police investigation report on 14/2/2022 and refused to produce their indicted officers till today but continued media trial against Abba Kyari and other police officers whom they deliberately set up to cover up for the indicted NDLEA officers in Enugu,” Odey stated.

Reacting to an inquiry by our Correspondent, the Spokesman of the NDLEA, Femi Babafemi, said that the issue was already in court and that those involved should be allowed to proof their case.

He expressed concern that the NDLEA had reacted to the video that circulated on the matter, noting that bringing up the issue after a long time was the handy work of distractors aimed at misleading the public which he said “they will always fail like in the past.”

“Its curious you are seeking our reaction to an allegation that we had reacted to it in February rehash by hirelings of drugs cartels in June long after trial had commenced in court.

“The facts of the case are now before a competent court and you should allow those involved proof their case for the court to rule.

“We’re not unaware of the desperate bids by the culprits and their paid agents to mislead the public with their illogical narratives, but they’ll always fail like in past attempts.

“They’re in court to defend themselves and should concentrate their energy on that rather than this same old narratives,” says the NDLEA Spokesman.
