Security guard docked over alleged theft of N2.7m worth of generator, cables

A security guard, La’azarus Yawuche, was on Friday arraigned before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, over alleged theft of generator and armored cabled worth N2.7 million.

Yawuche 41, is being charged with criminal conspiracy, theft and negligent conduct, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Adaugo Asikaugu of UbiajaCrescent, Garki Abuja, reported the case at the Karmo Police Station on Jan. 12.

Nwachukwu said that Yawuche conspired with others now at large, to gain access into the complainant’s house, and stole her power generator and 33 metres of armoured cables valued N2.7 million

She said that during police investigation, the defendant made a confessional statement but could not give a satisfactory account of the missing items.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 97, 289 and 196 the Penal Code.

The Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the case until March 26 for hearing.
