Dare-devil gunmen suspected to be cultists went wild last night, Friday, February 6, 2026, in Ogidi, home town of legendary novelist Chinua Achebe, located in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
By the time they were done, the town’s President General, Sir Ikwuka Okoye, and another victim whose identity could not be immediately established, lay dead.
Announcing the tragic development on a WhatsApp group shortly after midnight, a prominent Ogidi son lamented: “Duly elected and recognised by Anambra Government and Ogidi as a whole the head of all Ogidi both Nigeria and worldwide. Shot dead by cultists in Ogidi on Friday evening, February 6, 2027.”
Another one, writing on Facebook, said: “Chief Ikwuka Okoye, A.k.A Anumiri. The current President General of Ogidi Town Union has been Murdered by Men Of The Underworld This Evening. This is very Sad indeed.”
According to Naija Confra (@naijaconfra), Chief Ikwuka Okoye and the other male victim were killed by Aye (NBM) cultists. It linked their killing to the recent death of Emma Amasco, “an NBM h!t squad leader who d!£d after being arrested by local security operatives.”
Naija Confra explained that “Chief Ikwuka Okoye was not a cultist, but NBM accused him and some local security personnel of involvement in Emma’s arrest and de@th, threatening revenge on them. Contrary to rumours, Emma Amasco’s de@th had no connection to Vikings (DNKI) and was purely the result of action taken by local security against a known serial k**ler.”
Emma was reportedly arrested On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, “while stealing at a complex, after already stealing phones worth over ₦5 million,” Naija Confra said.
It added that, “Before his de@th, he was asked how many people he had k**led, and he said 46, even mentioning names. He claimed that all his NBM gang members were de@d except one named Gattuso, who he said was seriously ill with kidney problems and swollen body, keeping him indoors.
When asked how many people he k**led in Ogidi, Emma said “only 17.” 17 de@ths to Emma was “only” 17. It was after this, he was sh0t in the leg. He was not sh0t de@d on the spot but on the leg and later succumbed to his injvri£s.”
A source from Abatete town in the same Idemili North local government area who pleaded anonymity told TheNiche this morning that the menace of cultists in Anambra has become an existential threat.
“Yes, they killed the President General of Ogidi Town Union, Chief Ikwuka Okoye, last night. That is a tragedy. These cultists are the faceless gunmen and life means nothing to them.
“Two years ago, they also killed the President General of Umuoji Town Union, Chief Sylvester Onyima. And the same year, they came after the PG of Abatete Town, Chief Chima Ezigbo.
“He was first kidnapped around July 2024 and taken to Obosi, another community but he miraculously escaped and came back that same day. Then towards the end of the year, he was shot at the Eke-Agu market square, the main market in Abatete. He survived the attack but lost an eye. Unfortunately, three other people with him – two security men and a plumber he wanted to fix something in his house – were all killed.
“We don’t know why these gunmen are targeting the Presidents-General of the town unions in Anambra. It is sad.”
