A prominent Nigerian diaspora stakeholder and political activist, Dr. Usman Tijjani Shehu, has defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Dr. Shehu, a known ally within the Kwankwasiyya political movement, said his decision followed wide consultations with supporters, political associates, and key stakeholders both in Nigeria and across the diaspora.
Announcing his return, he explained that the move was driven by a collective resolve to realign politically in support of national development, youth inclusivity, and human capital advancement, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“After rigorous consultations, fair hearings with our teaming supporters, and strategic engagements with high-ranking political stakeholders, we have resolved to rejoin our former political family, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and contribute meaningfully to its growth and success,” he said.
He pledged to mobilise grassroots and diaspora support for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections, assuring of his loyalty to the party at all levels.
Dr. Shehu, a UK-based healthcare professional and community leader, is widely recognised by the traditional title Zannan Kabo, Dan Isan Hausawan Turai, reflecting his influence both at home and in the diaspora.
A trained physiotherapist specialising in musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders and public health, he has built professional experience in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
He previously worked at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, and General Ahmadi Rimi Orthopaedic and Specialist Hospital, Katsina, and currently serves as a director at Ozone Properties Ltd in Salford.
Politically, he has held key roles within the APC, including serving as Youth Leader of the APC UK Chapter. He was also a member of the Operations and Logistics Sub-Committee of the National Progressives Youth Conference held in Abuja in 2021, where he represented the Nigerian diaspora.
Dr. Shehu also contested for the House of Representatives seat for Gwarzo/Kabo Federal Constituency in the 2023 general elections under the NNPP platform.
Expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future, he called on his supporters and associates worldwide to rally behind the APC.
“I call on all our supporters at home and in the diaspora to join hands with us in strengthening the APC and working collectively towards a more prosperous Nigeria,” he added.
He reaffirmed his commitment to national unity, youth empowerment, and sustainable development, while wishing the APC success in the 2027 general elections.
