Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have neutralised two armed gunmen during a successful ambush operation in the Marit general area of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The operation was conducted at about 7:49 p.m. on Tuesday, 21 April 2026, near Doruwa Babuje, following credible intelligence on the movement of armed criminals suspected of carrying out violent attacks, sexual assault, and armed robbery in nearby communities.
Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, confirmed that troops successfully engaged the suspects after laying the ambush, resulting in a brief exchange of fire during which two gunmen were killed while others escaped into surrounding bushes under cover of darkness.
He added that a follow-up search of the area led to the recovery of one locally fabricated rifle, five rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, a cutlass, a jackknife, and a mobile phone.
According to him, troops have maintained a strong security presence in Marit and Lajam communities to ensure continued safety, while efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Operation ENDURING PEACE reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to security agencies.
