CEDYK fetes less privileged persons in Nnewi

The Nnewi South LGA branch of CEDYK on Thursday fed the less privileged persons in the industrial town of Nnewi, in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State.

The first point of call for the group was Nigerian Red Cross Society, Children Clinic and Child Development Center located adjacent the Nnewi North LGA Secretariat.

Special packages were presented to the management of the facility to take care of the motherless children and other children with disabilities.

The Matron of facility, Mrs Carol Ezechukwu thanked CEDYK for remembering the children in facility even as she tasked other humanitarian groups and affluent individuals in the society to borrow a leaf from the group.

Speaking at the occasion, the Nnewi South LGA Coordinator of CEDYK, Bro Iyke Uzukwu said that the group with over one thousand members in the council area decided to go out of their comfort zone to go and give a helping hand to the less privileged persons in the society.

He pointed out that the group has also embarked on empowerment initiatives for the downtrodden in the society to reduce criminal tendencies especially among the unemployed youths.

The group according to Bro Uzukwu is out to empower youths, many of who are not employed to embrace vocational training and agriculture which he noted is a noble profession.

The Chairman of CEDYK, Prof Frank Anaeto of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State said that the group csn rightly be described as a pressure group, and support group for the betterment of youths and other vulnerable persons in the society.

Prof. Anaeto who traced the chronological development of CEDYK pointed out that the group has metamorphosed from political group to pressure group and moving toward a humanitarian and Cooperative group with aim of empowerment of members and the less privileged persons.

“We have decided to make CEDYK a human capital development group, the group is not owned by any politician, but any politician who is interested in us is welcomed for discussion, I must however pointed out clearly that CEDYK is not for sale,” he asserted.

The group later moved to the popular Round About area in Nnewi and fed a multitude of destitute persons.
