Senator Garba Musa Maidoki of Kebbi South Senatorial District has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress [APC], citing unresolved internal disputes within the party. The resignation was formalized in a letter dated 14th May, 2026, addressed to the Ward Chairman of APC in Rafin Zuru Ward, Zuru Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
In the letter, Maidoki stated that he was withdrawing from the APC in Rafin Zuru Ward and linked his decision directly to “the lingering internal crises of the APC that has made my political aspirations a source of concern.” The tone of the letter remained measured, with the senator thanking the party for the opportunity to serve and concluding with “Please accept the assurances of my esteemed regards.”
The development comes less than a year after Maidoki defected to the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] in May 2025. He made the switch alongside Senators Adamu Aliero and Yahaya Abdullahi following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. The move was then seen as a major boost for the APC’s strength in Kebbi State and the National Assembly.
Nigerian news outlets reported the resignation on 15 May 2026, noting that it occurred just before the APC senatorial primaries and “amid fierce internal opposition” within the party in Kebbi State. Political observers say the timing raises questions about possible realignments ahead of the primaries.
Maidoki currently serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Legislative Compliance and Vice Chairman of the Committee on Information and National Orientation. His exit adds to the shifting political landscape in Kebbi South as parties prepare for upcoming elections.
