The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate demolition of about 30 buildings encroaching on the Right of Way of the Ring Road 3 corridor linking Karsana, Gwarinpa and Kubwa areas of Abuja.
He gave the directive on Thursday after inspecting some ongoing road projects across the territory.
Wike lamented over the structures obstructing the alignment of the major road corridor.
The directive followed a briefing by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Dauda, who drew the Minister’s attention to the illegal developments sitting directly on the designated infrastructure corridor.
Dauda explained that construction work on the second bridge along the route was progressing despite the rocky terrain, noting that the challenging ground conditions would not delay the project.
He said the Ring Road 3 corridor would connect the Karsana District with the Outer Northern Expressway (ONEX) and extend towards the Airport Road, with a flyover terminating at the designated interchange.
However, Dauda disclosed that approximately 30 buildings had encroached on the master plan alignment reserved for the road infrastructure.
Visibly angered by the development, Wike immediately summoned officials of the Department of Development Control and directed them to commence demolition without delay.
The Minister warned that the FCT Administration would not allow private interests to obstruct critical infrastructure or undermine the Abuja Master Plan.
He directed relevant authorities to enforce the approved planning regulations and clear all illegal structures standing on the Ring Road 3 corridor to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of the project.
“We’ll have to demolish this right now. Demolish the building down. How can it be like this? It’s even a road, it’s not even a layout—it’s an interchange, the leg,” Wike said.
