The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Mrs. Ramatu O. Ibrahim as Acting Bursar following the death of the university’s substantive Bursar, Mallam Nasir G. Marafa.
Ibrahim, who was previously the Deputy Bursar in charge of Treasury, assumed the position on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
Her appointment was approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Uduma Oji Uduma, with the concurrence of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Malam Isa Yuguda.
A statement signed by Mrs. Omotola Ojudu, Acting Director -Directorate of Media and Publicity, on Wednesday, said the registrar of the university, Mr. Oladipo Ajayi, announced the appointment on Tuesday, saying it was intended to ensure continuity and stability in the institution’s financial administration.
The appointment will remain in effect until further notice.
The university management also paid tribute to the late Marafa, describing him as a dedicated and dependable officer who served the institution with commitment, professionalism and integrity
According to the management, Marafa’s contributions to NOUN’s financial administration and institutional development would be remembered and appreciated.
Ibrahim brings considerable experience to the new role, having worked in several key operational units of the Bursary Department.
Her career at the university has exposed her to accounting, financial management, treasury operations and other administrative functions.
As Deputy Bursar, Treasury, she was responsible for providing professional leadership and oversight of the university’s treasury operations.
The registrar said Ibrahim’s broad experience within the Bursary Department, coupled with her familiarity with NOUN’s financial systems and institutional procedures, would enable her to effectively manage the office and sustain efficient, transparent and accountable financial services.
The management expressed confidence that the new Acting Bursar would perform her duties with professionalism, diligence, integrity and a strong sense of institutional responsibility.
The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the university management, congratulated Ibrahim on her appointment and wished her a successful tenure.
The university community was also urged to give the Acting Bursar the necessary cooperation and support as she assumes her new responsibilities.
