The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the temporary unavailability of all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations following the collapse of three transmission towers along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor.
TCN said the incident occurred at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during rainy and windy weather conditions, when the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent relay protection.
According to the company in a statement signed by its Management on Thursday, investigations following the trip revealed that Towers T78, T79 and T80 had collapsed along the transmission line corridor.
The company said it immediately isolated the affected section of the line as a safety measure.
As a result, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations are currently unavailable, meaning that no load can be nominated on the affected feeders until further notice.
TCN said its engineers are already at the affected location assessing the extent of the damage and determining the materials and other requirements needed to commence restoration work.
The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to electricity customers supplied from the affected substations.
“Please bear with us as we make every effort to ensure that necessary repairs are completed as quickly as possible to enable the restoration of bulk power supply,” TCN said.
The company assured the public that further updates would be provided as restoration efforts progress.
