The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has promised to recommend Julius Adamu, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate in Bwari Area Council, to President Bola Tinubu for a position on the FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB).
Wike made the disclosure on Thursday at an interactive meeting in Bwari town attended by supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC), PDP, traditional rulers and other stakeholders.
The minister said Adamu deserved consideration for his humility and willingness to step down and support the incumbent Bwari Area Council chairman, Joshua Ishaku, during the political process.
The recommendation followed a request by the APC women leader in Bwari, Deborah Ayorinde, who appealed to Wike to compensate Adamu for putting the collective interest ahead of his personal ambition.
Wike commended the former PDP candidate for his decision, describing his support for Ishaku as a demonstration of commitment to President Tinubu’s political interests.
He said the FCT Administration would continue to implement policies and projects aimed at meeting residents’ expectations.
The minister also assured traditional rulers that requests for the construction of the Kogo-Bwari and Mpape-Galowoyi roads would be considered.
On the 2027 political contest, Wike urged residents to reject what he described as political gamblers and support the Tinubu administration, citing ongoing infrastructure projects and other interventions across the territory.
Wike said the Rainbow Coalition was established to unite politicians across party lines in pursuit of the interests of FCT residents, insisting that party affiliation should not outweigh development.
He urged residents to assess their elected representatives based on their accessibility, responsiveness and commitment to addressing the challenges facing their communities.
The minister also questioned the performance of the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, asking residents whether they had felt her impact and whether she had visited traditional rulers, women and youths to understand their concerns.
“It doesn’t matter the party. After all, party is a vehicle that conveys you to where you are going. When you get there, you come down from the vehicle and you now work for the interest of the people,” he said.
“The mistake we made in 2023, would we make that mistake again? If it was an error, would we make that error again?” he asked, drawing a negative response from the audience.
“As I leave here today, I am going to recommend Julius Adamu on the Federal Capital Territory Universal Basic Education Board (FCT-UBEB).
