Chinese President Xi Jinping and Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah on Friday agreed to build a China-Namibia community with a shared future for the new era and issued a joint statement following talks in Beijing.
During their talks, Xi said China and Namibia enjoy a profound traditional friendship and share common aspirations for development.
As the Communist Party of China (CPC) unites and leads the Chinese people in advancing national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization, and Namibia moves toward its Vision 2030, Xi said the time is ripe to deepen bilateral friendship and cooperation, with broad prospects ahead.
China is ready to strengthen exchanges on development philosophies and align development strategies with Namibia to advance modernization together, he added.
In building a China-Namibia community with a shared future for the new era, Xi called on both sides to firmly support each other and deepen exchanges on governance philosophies, saying they should maintain close high-level exchanges, expand experience-sharing on state governance, maintain regular communication on overarching and strategic issues concerning bilateral relations and continue to support each other on issues involving their respective core interests and major concerns.
The two sides should tap cooperation potential and elevate the quality of cooperation, Xi added. He noted that China has implemented a zero-tariff policy for all products from the 53 African countries with which it has diplomatic relations, describing it as a major step in China’s high-level opening up and a timely boost for Africa’s development.
He expressed hope that Namibia would make full use of the zero-tariff arrangement, the upgraded “green channel” for exports to China and other preferential policies to bring more high-quality Namibian products into the Chinese market.
The Chinese president also called for strengthening solidarity and coordination to uphold multilateralism. As important members of the Global South, China and Namibia share broad common interests and similar values, he said, adding that they should work more closely together to uphold international fairness and justice.
China stands ready to strengthen coordination with African countries, including Namibia, to amplify the voice and influence of the Global South and make new contributions to building a community with a shared future for humanity, he said.
Helping African countries develop their abundant mineral resources and transform resource advantages into development momentum is an important path toward accelerating Africa’s modernization, Xi said.
China is willing to deepen mining cooperation with African countries, including Namibia, based on three principles: mutual benefit and win-win cooperation, friendly consultation, and innovation and progress, he added.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said the friendship between Namibia and China has a long history, and bilateral relations have maintained a high level of development. She congratulated the CPC on its 105th anniversary, saying China is a great country that has achieved remarkable economic and social progress under Xi’s leadership.
Namibia highly values its relations with China and firmly adheres to the one-China principle, Nandi-Ndaitwah said.
She said Namibia is willing to learn from China’s experience, strengthen solidarity, consolidate mutual trust, expand cooperation and advance the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. The SWAPO Party of Namibia is also willing to strengthen party-to-party exchanges with the CPC, she added.
Nandi-Ndaitwah said Namibia hopes to expand trade with China, welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest in the country and looks forward to closer cooperation in industry, mining, infrastructure, aerospace, science and technology, agriculture, and water resources to support Namibia’s economic and social development.
She also praised China’s long-standing support for African countries, including Namibia, and said Namibia is ready to strengthen coordination with China to safeguard the common interests of developing countries and jointly build a community with a shared future for humanity.
Following the talks, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of cooperation documents covering the economy and trade, healthcare, education and human resources.
The two sides also issued a joint statement.
