BATMEDICS Treats 10,000 Beneficiaries in Kaduna Medical Outreach

…Screens 3,000 for Eye Problems, Conducts 212 Surgeries

BATMEDICS, a support group for President Bola Tinubu, has extended its free medical outreach to Kaduna State, providing healthcare services to about 10,000 beneficiaries across seven locations.

The initiative, led by the organisation’s Director-General, Dr Ojeje Onimisi, under the supervision of the Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, and in collaboration with the Medical Directorate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Committee, offered free medical consultations, eye screening, treatment and surgical interventions.

The outreach also provided maternity support, including Mama Kits for pregnant women, as part of efforts to improve access to essential healthcare services, particularly among vulnerable residents and low-income households.

According to the organisation, about 3,000 beneficiaries underwent eye screening, while 212 people received surgical interventions during the exercise.

The programme was designed to bring essential medical services closer to underserved communities, reducing the financial and logistical challenges that often prevent residents from accessing timely medical attention.

Speaking on the initiative, the Director-General of BATMEDICS, Dr Ojeje Onimisi, said the outreach reflected the organisation’s commitment to taking healthcare services directly to communities where access to medical facilities and the cost of treatment remained significant challenges.

He stressed that medical interventions should go beyond diagnosis to include treatment and other forms of support capable of improving the quality of life of beneficiaries.

The Director of Medical, Research and Communication at BATMEDICS, Petra Akinti Onyegbule, said the Kaduna outreach combined preventive healthcare, treatment and surgical interventions to address the medical needs of residents.

She noted that the screening of 3,000 people and the performance of 212 surgeries underscored the importance of early detection and timely medical intervention.

“Medical outreach is not just about the number of people reached; it is about making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. By taking these services to seven locations in Kaduna, BATMEDICS has helped bring essential healthcare closer to thousands of people who need it,” Onyegbule said.

She added that the organisation remained committed to supporting initiatives that improved access to healthcare and promoted the wellbeing of Nigerians.

Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing the free medical services as timely relief amid the rising cost of healthcare.

One of the beneficiaries, Amina Musa, said the eye screening had enabled her to check her eyesight without worrying about the immediate cost of accessing the service.

She said many residents required medical attention but could not afford regular hospital visits, adding that the outreach provided an opportunity for people to assess their health conditions.

Another beneficiary, Ibrahim Sani, commended BATMEDICS for bringing medical personnel closer to residents, noting that financial constraints often forced people to delay treatment.

He called for the continuation of the programme to enable more communities to benefit from similar interventions.

Similarly, Fatima Abdullahi said the outreach demonstrated the importance of taking healthcare services directly to the people, particularly those facing financial and logistical difficulties in accessing hospitals.

She urged the organisers to sustain the initiative, noting that regular medical checks and timely treatment could help residents identify health problems before they became more serious.

BATMEDICS said the Kaduna exercise formed part of its broader commitment to community-based healthcare interventions, with a focus on expanding access to essential medical services and supporting vulnerable populations.

The organisation also emphasised the importance of sustained partnerships and humanitarian initiatives in addressing healthcare gaps and improving the wellbeing of Nigerians.
