The Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) on Sunday denied mobilizing some women who allegedly booed the President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Dr. Nnia Nwodo, while making a speech at a leaders of the South East and South West in Enugu last week, dubbed a?Handshake Across the Nigera?.
Nwodo, while making his remarks at the event, received uncomplimentary remarks from some women, which almost marred the event.
While some people attributed the unruly behavior to IPOB, the pro-Biafra body said the women who booed in disagreement with Nwodo’s call for restructuring, rather than the actualisation of Biafra, merely expressed their reservations and were at no time sponsored by IPOB to do so.
Insisting they should not be linked to the act, IPOB through a press statement signed by Emma Powerful, their media and publicity secretary, maintained that the group would have done better by mobilising a larger number of people to Enugu for the event but refrained because it remained indifferent to the occasion.
IPOB statement read in part: “We have pedigree, culture and proud tradition of announcing our activities ahead of time and also accepting responsibility for all our actions.
“While we respect the event and the presence of our brothers and sisters from the great Yoruba nation, we venture to state that the humiliation of Nwodo in Enugu on Thursday, was most probably a spontaneous reaction by the ordinary people of our land who find it quite amusing that they think the agitation for Biafra restoration has been crushed.
“The inescapable truth is that our people are solidly behind our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his quest for Biafra.
“Had IPOB mobilized our women to storm Enugu, the entire metropolis would not have contained our angry mothers,” IPOB stated.
