From Austine Tule. Makurdi
Not fewer than three persons were reportedly killed Wednesday Morning in Jootar, a border settlement between Benue and Taraba State by people suspected to be Jukun militia.
According to a local who spoke to The AUTHORITY on telephone , the Jukum militia stomed the border community at about 4:00am through Wukari and started shooting spirodically.
He added that the latest attack came without any provocation confirming that at least three Tiv farmers lost their lives while over 100 houses were also raised down.
He valued property equally distroyed during the attack to be in millions .
Explaining further, he said the Jukum militia operated unchallenged for about 3 hours even as federal government special forces are stationed in Wukari , 2 Kilometres away from the attaked Community.
Reacting to the urgly incidence, Ukum local Government caretaker chairman Hon Tortyokaa Ibellogo condemned the attack in it’s entirely saying it was most unfortunate.
He wondered why the Jukum militia will cross over to Benue where their is no crisis, insisting that Tiv farmers in Benue were not at war with Jukum.
“To the best of my knowledge this is supposed to be a crisis between the Tiv and Jukum in Taraba state and has nothing to do with Benue. In my state Benue, we have Jukum in Abintse and Wurukum in Guma and Makurdi living peacefully with the Tiv people”
“I want to call on the inspector general of police (IGP), Chief of army staff and president of Nigeria to as a matter of urgency intervain in this crisis already we are trying to maintain a social distance to face the covid 19 pendemic which has affected Benue, Nigeria and the entire world.” Ibellogo concluded.
It could recall that Jootar was attached last year July by suspected Jukum militia where 4 persons were killed without any arrest made by the security agencies.
