It was cheering news when the Anambra State Newspaper Printing Corporation (ANPC), publishers of National Light Newspaper, Ka O Di Taa and SportsLight Xtra today, flagged off an agricultural scheme, tagged Ugbo Azu Uno.
The scheme was initiated to complement Governor Willie Obiano’s efforts in ensuring food security and sufficiency for Ndi Anambra.
The flag off followed a Media Target Platform where ‘Leaders Discourse With Media Leaders’ held at the corporation’s premises.
Speaking, Special Adviser to Governor Obiano on Agric, Chief Paul Nwosu, represented by Managing Director, Clear Drainage and Forest Preservation Agency, Chido Obidiegwu stated that Anambra State, in her foresight had initiated agric programme that will sustain her people before the emergence of the current COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the society.
He said: “Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has seen tomorrow by engaging in robust farming project in the state to ensure food sustainability for Ndi-Anambra before the coronavirus pandemic suddenly came.”
“When we talk about post COVID-19 situation, it seems Governor Obiano is the Nostradamus of our time. We have a governor who sees ahead. With the structure we have, we would not see much of hunger but we have to prepare, so we will not be taken unawares.”
Commending ANPC for their growing innovativeness, Obidiegwu stated, “there is one thing about ANPC which distinguishes them out remarkably. They keep on coming out with novelty in the way they do things. They deserve real appreciation.”
In his opening remarks, the Managing director and Chief Executive of ANPC, Sir Chuka Nnabuife stated that the essence of the project is to help build food sufficiency in the state in line with Governor Obiano’s agric revolution direction.
“We have survived challenges in the past, including World Wars 1 and 11, we will survive the coronvirus pandemic and the attendant hunger it may come with.
The Ugbo Azu Uno will help staff in no small way to cushion hunger even as small as it may look.” He applauded the willingness of ANPC staff to engage in the farming project which made the surrounding pieces of land for cultivation insufficient, leading to its allocation through balloting.
The MD, Clear Drainage and Forest Preservation Agency, Chido Obidiegwu, DG, Anambra State Digital Entrepreneurship Office, Ifeanyi Aniagor, MD, Signage and Advertising Agency, Jude Emecheta, Brand Consultant to Anambra State Government, Mike Meze, Chris Obinabo, amongst others attended the event.
