PDP is still the party of choice for Nigerians – Segun Oni

By Myke Uzendu, Abuja.

Former Deputy National Chairman (South) in the All Progressives Congress (APC) who recently dumped the party has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is still the only viable party that will lead the country out of its present quagmire.

Oni who was also former governor of Ekiti state and has indicated interest in completing his second tenure come 2022 in a statement on Sunday stressed that the present socio-economic stress in the country has pushed people to change political parties hoping that the change will provide a better solution.

He assured that the PDP is still intact despite all internal wrangling. He expressed optimism that the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Committee on Reconciliation and Strategy will resolve all the issues bugging the party.

He said, “I will like to urge members of the PDP to not despair or lose hope about the recent developments. The country’s political environment reflects people seeking an alternative to the APC, and it is only the PDP that can provide this alternative.

“All over Nigeria, the frustrations of the people are very palpable, and have continued to compel them of the inevitability of the search for an alternative direction for the nation. The PDP is still the party of choice for all Nigerians.

“There may be individual logic or fear for people who are crossing, but it does not reflect the attitude on the ground in the party. Therefore, Nigerians should not despair; the transformation they are hoping for is imminent.

“I believe the PDP will resolve internal issues based on principles and constitutionality. The Dr Bukola Saraki led reconciliation committee is doing well, and it can end the misunderstanding and disagreements in some quarters, and we must support them”.

Recall that Cross River state governor, Senator Ben Ayade recently dumped the PDP for the ruling party. His counterpart in Ebonyi state, Dave Umahi also took the same step few months ago.
