Over 600 participants from Plateau North Senatorial District have commenced training on post seasonal farming in Jos, the Plateau State Capital.
The programme is to encourage the people to engage in Agriculture.
This was disclosed by the Senator representing the zone, Istifanus Gyang while flagging off the agricultural skills empowerment programme for 615 people, drawn from the 73 Wards that make up the senatorial district.
The programme which was organised by the Senator in collaboration with the Federal College of Horticulture Dadinkowa, Gombe State; is for the participants to receive knowledge on Agriculture and post harvest management towards addressing losses after harvest.
Gyang noted that the post harvest management has become so critical that farmers can draw benefits from the labour and investment that people make on their farms.
According to him, “The people in this zone are mostly agrarian and it is on record that farmers experience waste after harvest.
“Nigeria is an oil driven economy, hence the need for the training, is to acquire the requisite knowledge as farmers.
Also speaking, the Provost, Federal College of Horticulture, Dadinkowa, Dr Babarawo Mohammed Ali, stressed the need for post analysis of impacts on such training.
Ali who was represented by Japhet Johla also noted the implementation of food importation.
In his goodwill message, the Member Representating Jos South/ Jos East in the House of Representatives, Dachung Bagos stressed the need to strengthen the Youth through knowledge acquisition.
