Why FCT was peaceful during 2021 Christmas, New Year celebrations- CP

…arrests killers of medical doctor, friend, others

For the first time in many years, the residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) celebrated the Christmas and New Year festivities without any security threat.

This, the Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Babaji Sunday, attributed to the  reorganization of security architecture to match up and subdue what he described as “the ever evolving dynamics of crime and criminality.”

He further said that partnership and cooperation with other sister security agencies in the FCT was among the reasons for the success recorded.

Speaking at a media briefing on Monday, the CP said that efforts of officers and men of his Command was “doubled, commitment increased and passion stirred up to pursuing the course of bringing crime and criminality to the barest minimum in the FCT.”

CP Sunday disclosed that as young as 2022 is, the crime fighting efforts of his Command has recorded a great harvest of criminal elements; some are, according to him, currently under investigation, some already in the correctional facilities while others are “on our radar closely monitored to be apprehended.”

The CP disclosed that since the beginning of the year, his command has arrested 19 suspects and recovered 55 exhibits including 5 locally made pistols and46 unexpended ammunitions.

He revealed that 3 suspects have been arrested in connection with the gruesome murder of two friends – Dr. Obisike Donald Ibe, a medical doctor working at Zenith Lab and Kidney Centre and his friend 31-years-old Ezekiel Edoja.

The 3 suspects, he said, include Abdulsalam Ibrahim, Fidelis Ezekiel and Phillimon Hussaini.

 “The FCT Police Command has since the receipt of this information deposited the corps at the morgue and embarked on an aggressive man hunt in the midst of painstaking investigations. 

“The perpetrators of the dastardly act also carted away with a vehicle and an envelope containing about 1000 dollars, the mobile phone of the deceased Doctor and the ATM card which was used to withdraw money to the tone of 2,000,000 naira from the deceased account on December 13, 2021.

The CP further disclosed that within this month, a suspect was arrested in connection with the murder of a farmer at his farm.

Upon recipe of this information, intelligence and tactical assets of the Command, attached to Karu Divisional Police Headquarters were immediately drafted to the scene and investigation commenced earnestly which led to the arrest of one Muhammed Abubakar, aged 22 years, who voluntarily confessed in a written statement to have stabbed the deceased and took flight for the feared of apprehension, after a fight had ensued between him and the deceased resulting, in the murder.

“The cutlass used in causing bodily injuries to the leg of the deceased before stabbing him on the rib was subsequently recovered on a cliff where the suspect had hidden it,” the CP revealed.
