There was wild jubilation cheers, and excitement as the new acting Registrar-General, Hajia Saratu Shafii chairs the second successive management meeting in the New Year, following her recent appointment as the New acting Registrar-General of the Corporate Affair Commission.
At the resumption of work at the beginning of the New Year, the staff were seen discussing the emergence of the new Acting Registrar-General which they see as an act of God.
According to one of the Senior staff of the commission, who does not want to be named, the entire staff welcomed the new acting Registrar-General with a lot of excitement,hope and high expectations in the spirit of the new year, with the believe that her long experience in the commission will be a strong tool and an added advantage for her in piloting the affairs of the Commission.
The senior staff said he believes that the new Acting Registrar-General has the requisite skill, training, charisma and strength of Character to drive the entire staff into repositioning the commission.
Another Staff of the Commission, who said his name is Ahmed expressed confidence that the new acting Registrar General will continue and sustain some of the new innovations introduced to the commission by the embattled former Acting-Registrar General Lady Azuka Azinge.
His words “Hajia is the most senior Director of the commission; she was the Director, Incorporated Trustees before her new position as acting Registrar General. She has served and represented the Commission in various capacities. As a seasoned lawyer who has risen through the various departments of the commission, she seems to be conversant with the challenges and prospects of the commission which she is poised to tackle in other to reposition the commission.
The General opinion of the staff according to those who spoke to our correspondent is that increased revenue drive, improved staff welfare, efficient and effective service delivery to the public should be the areas of priority for Hajia Saratu Shafii.
Recall that the embattled Lady Azinge was arraigned before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for failure to declare certain assets. The tribunal had by a motion ordered that Lady Azinge step aside pending the determination of the suit and ordered the Minister of trade and Investment to hand the Commission over to the most senior director of the commission.
The Federal Government had in compliance with the Order of the CCT on December 30th, 2019 appointed Saratu Shafii as the Acting Registrar-General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
Moses Adaguusu, the Head of Public Affairs of the commission, made this known in a statement in Abuja.
Mr Adaguusu said Shafii’s appointment was conveyed to CAC through the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment.
He said that until her appointment, Ms Shafii was a Director, Incorporated Trustees Department of the commission.
The new acting Registrar-General is a graduate of Law from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1985.
Ms Shafii started her working career with the Niger State Ministry of Justice from 1986 to 1991, and later joined CAC in 1992 as a Senior Litigation Officer and rose through the ranks to become a director in 2012.
The Code of Conduct Tribunal had ordered the suspension of the immediate past Acting Registrar-General of the commission, Azuka Azinge, for not declaring her assets.
The order for the suspension of Ms Azinge was issued on December 24, by the Umar Danladi-led three-man tribunal based on an ex-parte application by the Federal Government, through the Code of Conduct Bureau.
The tribunal directed the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment to execute the order of suspension to subsist, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice dated and filed on December 17.
