BSEMA seeks more women involvement in humanitarian service

Women Wing Organisations and other public- spirited individuals have again been called upon to be committed to humanitarian relief to individuals in need, especially the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across Benue state.

Acting Executive Secretary, Benue State Emergency Management Agency, BSEMA, Sir James Iorpuu made the call on Tuesday in Makurdi when he received a delegation from League of Women Voters Association of Nigeria Benue State Chapter in his office.

Sir Iorpuu described The League of Women Voters as influential Mothers who can help bring sanity and dignity to the displaced women in the camps.

According to the ES, “the Women League being advocates of good governance should team up with well meaning individuals to join hands with Benue State Government led by Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, to cushion the plights of the displaced people especially women and children”.

He appreciated The League of Women Voters Association for willingness to partake massively in humanitarian affairs especially to women explaining that, 87% of the population in the camps are women and their living conditions is heartbreaking.

He expressed the State Government’s commitment through BSEMA to remain open to receive any humanitarian organisations and public spirited individuals willing to partner and invest in the humanitarian activities in Benue State, and called for proper documentation of new partners for effective coordination of their activities.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Chairman Mrs Ruth Bem said their visit was to familiarize with the BSEMA boss and further seek for partnership to continue to assist Persons of Concern whom she said are going through difficulties.

Mrs Ruth highlighted some of their interventions in some
camps as; supply of Sanitary pads for women and have also taught then how to manufacture them.

While commending the BSEMA Boss Mrs. Bem said the League supports good governance and as somebody who is taking care of the vulnerable, the visit was to congratulate and encourage him to do more.

Mrs. Bem said the organization is for Women only and has branches all over the world with the objective of sensitizing women to improve on their livelihood. She said, they have coordinators in all the local governments in the state and because they love good governance they were solidly behind the good administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia.
