Plateau Killings: Sen. Gyang, Rep. Maren condemn act, says attack an act of terrorism

Senator representing Plateau North, Istifanus Gyang has described the recent killing of 15 persons in Kumbun community of Mangu LGA of Plateau State as “an act of terrorism and a reversal to the dark days”.

The Lawmaker appeal to all citizens in the Plateau to “with one voice, condemn and denounce this wickedness”.

Gyang through his Special Adviser, Media and Protocol, Ibrahim Musa Ashoms, said he received with rude shock the report of the killing of 15 persons at Kumbun, Mangu LGA.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday, dozens were killed in Kumbun community of Mangu LGA of Plateau State by yet to be identified gunmen.

Governor Simon Lalong had on Thursday said security operatives have arrested 7 suspects in connection with the incident.

The Lawmaker who is the Deputy Chairman Senate Committee on Defense, “considers this tragic act as an act of terrorism and a reversal to the dark days”, Ashoms said..

Saying, “No; not again on the Plateau”.

He added, “All citizens on the Plateau should, with one voice, condemn and denounce this wickedness.

The Senator urges security agencies to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice and to take all appropriate steps to secure law abiding citizens.

Meanwhile, the Legislator is appealing to all well meaning citizens not to concede to the obvious provocation of this dastardly act to loose faith in the peace process nor resort to violent reprisals in the State.

According to him, “Good people should not allow evil men to defeat our commitment to peace and harmonious coexistence on the Plateau.

While commiserating with the government and people of the State, he prays for the repose of the souls of all victims of attacks.

Also, the Member Representating Mangu/Bokkos Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Solomon Maren, has condemned in strong terms the gruesome murder of innocent and harmless youths by gunmen who invaded peaceful Kulben village in Kombun District of Mangu LGA in the early hours of Thursday, January 9, 2020.

Maren while reacting to the incident through his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Isah Adamu Abdullahi, said, “The attack which comes barely 24 hours after securities foiled a similar attack believed to be armed banditry in neighboring Kon Village of Kerang Ward on Wednesday,

He described the attack as, “evil, barbaric and ungodly.

The Lawmaker while commiserating with the families of those killed, vowed to pursue justice into the incident by taking it up as a matter of urgent importance.

According to him, “My heart is torn to shreds and I feel the pain of these poor families. We will do everything humanly possible to ensure that any person or group of people found culpable in this attack is decisively dealt with.

“They will not be allowed to go unpunished. They shall face the full wrath of the law,” Maren stressed.

He assured of working with all stakeholders to ensure the peace and security of Mangu/Bokkos constituency.

The Rep Member who recently donated 30 motorcycles to traditional rulers for use in rural patrol and intelligence gathering commended security agencies for swiftly responding to the threat and arresting suspects connected to it.

He therefore called for calm, pleading that no one takes the law into their hands but allow Government to deal with the matter lawfully.
