Nigeria gets ride-sharing app for interstate travel

By Felix Khanoba

A transport technology company, Bloom, has unveiled a new app, BloomRydes In-Motion, which is set to provide flexible ride-sharing services to millions of Nigerians on intra and interstate travels.

Unveiling the app in Abuja on Monday, Founder and Chief Executive of the company, Jasper Ogbonna, said the platform which is expected to enlist 100million Nigerians in not too distant future, allows one to three persons to share same vehicle while embarking on a journey.

He said the company decided to develop the app to address some of the transportation challenges in the country by making comfortable transport services available at a pocket friendly price.

“BloomRydes is a ride-sharing app with flexibility and alternate income generation for certified car owners and cost effective fares for riders/passengers. The drivers keep 100 per cent of the income they make on the platform,” Ogbonna said.

While saying drivers need to pay a little amount to subscribe to the ride-sharing platform, the Bloom boss said the app gives motorists already going on a trip the opportunity to add passengers going the same route to his/her ride while he keeps the income generated.

“The company’s goal is to promote the human angle of travelling as a social enterprise, thereby connecting commuters to commercial and networking opportunities that will boost their businesses and increase their earning power while on the go, powered by the ‘Same Route Phenomena,” he said.

Ogbonna said the company, which is powered by young Nigerians, conducted a research and the findings prompted the design of BloomRydes to provide solutions to identified problems, adding that the app is available on phones for download.

His words: “Findings from this study are obvious-from inadequate public transportation systems, to road congestions from substandard vehicles used by individuals and business to offer transport services, leading to Air Pollution/Carbon Emission with resultant health hazards for commuters.”

While expressing the company willingness to partner with state governments to address perennial transportation problems in the country, Ogbonna expressed delight that the BloomRydes platform which is embedded with water-tight security features would contribute massively to the economy development of the country.
