Group Pass Vote of Confidence on Police

By Nzeh Frankwhite

A pressure group, Peace and Anti Corruption Advocacy has commended the Nigeria Police Force under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu for the high degree of professionalism and discipline prevalent in rank and file of the police.

In a statement made available to journalists in Abuja and signed by it’s National Coordinator Comrade James Okoronkwo the group noted that the Police has excelled with alleged poor funding.
It stated that the IGP has brought to bear the consciousness into the citizenry that security was a joint responsibility of the citizens and the police.

The statement maintained that with the population of about 200 million people and less than 400,000 policemen, Nigeria was under policed, stressing that, inspite of the shortfall, the Police has continued to give good account of it’s self.

The group stated that IGP’s excellence has been further attested to by the adoption of his Community policing idea by the federal government, insisting that the project when fully implemented would enhance security and performance of the Nigeria Police

The group however warned those it described as “fifth columnists” masquerading as human crusaders to desist from making unguarded and unverifiable insinuations against police hierarchy in Nigeria.

It stated that scoring the Enugu and Kogi state Police Commands low in discipline and professionalism without verifiable proof was unfair.
The group maintained that the so called human rights campaigners have allowed themselves to be used in disparaging decent and transparent police officer whose service record is unassailable.

“Peace and Anti Corruption Advocacy admonished Human Rights Crusaders not to be used as willing tools to settle scores. Let us verify what people bring to us before going public with unfounded allegations”, the statement said

The group wondered what so called human rights campaigner tended to achieve when he jumped into conclusion without investigating or hearing the other side of the story before going public with the report.

” That is not a hallmark of professionalism and objectivity in Jan rights campaign”, it noted.

The group urged the authorities and the public to discountenance the campaign of calumny against the police saying it was aimed at creating disaffection in the system.
