Restructure Nigeria now, Rivers’ statesman tells FG

From Blessing Ibunge, Port Harcourt

A statesman in Rivers State, Alhaji Abubakar Orlu, has urged the President Muhammadu Buhari led government to as a matter of urgency work towards the restructuring of Nigeria nation.

Alhaji Orlu who is a Muslim leader in the South-South region, spoke with The AUTHORITY while reacting to the state of the nation. He said there was need for the government to enact law that will ensure the restructuring of the nation.

According to statesman: “Nigeria is presently on the verge of imminent collapse and the only way we can achieve the much needed unity is to urgently restructure this nation.

“Politically speaking, we all know that Nigeria is being controlled by people from one zone of the country. How can a nation that is highly populated and with a large land mass be controlled continually by persons from just one section of zone? This is why Nigerians earnestly need the restructuring of the Nigeria nation.

“If the present National Assembly fails to enact a law that will ensure the speedy restructuring of Nigeria now, we will regret it in no distant time. The National Assembly should restructure this country and also pass the amended Electoral Bill into Law. So, I implore the lawmakers in the National Assembly to ensure that Nigeria is restructured, especially as this will enable each geo-political zone to prepare to sustain itself.”

Responding to questions from our correspondent on what need to be done to improve on Nigerian’s economy, Alhaji Orlu said “No matter our ethnic leanings, be it East, West, North or South, let us forget depending on crude oil because in the next 15 years, precisely by 2035, the Western nations may no longer buy our crude oil again.

“As at now, many countries in the world no longer depend on crude oil but mechanized agriculture for their economic sustenance and agricultural resource are predominantly in Northern Nigeria not in the southern section of the country.”

The Muslim leader stated that the problem faced in the country is as a result of bad leaders and the followers.

“The numerous killings in Nigeria will not subside in any time soon. No amount of prayers can stop its occurrence, because 80 per cent of Nigerians are corrupt, and it is this corrupt tendency that is killing this great nation.

“Furthermore, the All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled federal government in Nigeria lies to the citizens every day, particularly as the rulers continually and repeatedly lie to the people. Almost everything they told the Nigerian masses about security and the war against corruption are all but lies, deceits and nothing else.

“In the past five years, we cannot boast of any tangible thing that the federal government had done to improve the lot of the citizens. Nigerians are not fools and we cannot be deceived all the time, particularly as we are not animals, but human beings with developed brains.”
