Amidst the rapid spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, a non-governmental organisation, Neighbourhood Economic Development Foundation (NEDF), has disclosed that it will partner PNB Dania Memorial Foundation Incorporated and other critical stakeholders from public and private sectors to mobilize Nigerians to embark on an exercise to clean up the entire country of filth and dirt for the good of all.
The group in a statement issued Monday in Abuja, through its national coordinator ,Taju Dolapo, said the project, christened Nigerians Cleanup Nigeria (NCN) is meant to improve the health of the citizens, boost productivity and make the economy stronger.
Dorado noted that the project is also aimed at containing the devastating effects of Coronavirus or any other diseases from further harming the nation’ s population and the economy.
He further explained that the concept is to complement the activities of government and waste managers in ensuring that the country has a clean and decent environment.
“The project is an all stakeholders affair that requires the participation and support of all Nigerians for good success,” the statement said.
Dolapo also said “the devastating effects of Coronavirus on supposedly cleaner and advanced countries than Nigeria is a wakeup call on us to be very mindful of our environment and how we treat it.
“God forbid, but the truth is that dirty and all unclean habits and attitude can be a harbinger of dangerous diseases which may be deadlier than Coronavirus! It is in light of all these that we solicit the support of all Nigerians especially the media for the success of the initiative.
“In line with what the American President Donald Trump did by declaring a national day of prayer against Coronavirus, Mr Dolapo also urge Christians and Muslins not to relent in praying and fasting against Coronavirus and other diseases even as they take practical medical steps as advised by experts to contain the virus.
“We must also continue to show gratitude to Almighty God for sparing Nigeria and the rest of Africa from being heavily devastated by the virus saves for some pockets of imported cases. Africa with a weaker health services compared to the advanced countries where Coronavirus is most pronounced, would have fared worse.”
