Adamu Usman chairs UBEC’s Board, Kashim-Ibrahim heads TETFund’s BoT

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Professor Adamu Kyuka Usman as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

The President has also named Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

The two strategic intervention agencies in the Federal Ministry of Education were left without board chairmen last year following the ministerial appointments of two occupants of the positions.

Mohammed Mahmud Abubakar, the immediate past UBEC Governing Board’s chairman is now the Minister of Environment while Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, the former TETFund BoT’s chairman now serves as the Minister of State for Education.

The President, in a letter dated 15 May 2020 and signed by the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, said the appointment of Usman as UBEC’s Board chairman took effect from May 14, 2020.

Until his new position, Usman was a lecturer at the Department of Commercial Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and his appointment is for a period of four years which is renewable upon satisfactory performance.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has also approved the appointment of Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as Chairman, Board of Trustees of TETFund.

The appointment, which is also for a renewable term of four years took effect from May 14 2020.

A letter which conveyed the appointment and signed by Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said: “I write to convey to you the approval of His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, of your appointment as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) in Abuja with effect from May 14, 2020.”
