Even as argument put up by Enugu Eastsenatorial zone stakeholders on why the zone should be allowed to produce thenext governor in 2023_based on the rotational and zoning principle in thestate, arguments on which of the six local governments in the zone fromwhere the next governor of the state will emerge has started to rent the air.
Towards this direction, politicaljuggernauts from Enugu East local government area met in Enugu within last tobegin consultations that for the interest of fair play and equity,Enugu Eastlocal government area should be allowed to produce the next of Enugu state onbehalf of Enugu East senatorial.
The stake holders at the meetingwhich included Engr Prince Lawrence Eze.,a philanttrpist who is of recentparticipating actively in the state politics,said they need power to redressthe sovio infrastructural marginalization of the local government area inaddition to balancing the power equation in the zone.
Briefing newsmen the member whorepresented Nkanu East/Nkanu West in the National assembly(lower house) in the3rd republic, Hon Anayo Ede while stressing that the zoning arrangement inEnugu state must be kept intact, lamented that Nkanu East local government areahas been impoverished and socially alienated because of their inability to haveacquired political power.
He said unlike Nkanu West localgovernment area their neighbour which have produced both a civilians governorand senator, Enugu East council area wallow in deep marginalisation andexclusion..
His words,,”Nkanu East localgovernment area in Enugu state that you must through four other local councilsbefore you can access its headquarters. A less than one hundred meters bridgeacross Inyaba River would have made direct access to the headquarters possibleand reduced the pain our people are subjected to in order to gain access totheir council headquarters, Amagunze. But this is not possible became of ourexclusion from strategic positions in government at all levels.
“It is incontrovertible thatpolical power is necessary for the creation of wealth.Our inability to acquirepolitical power has caused impoverishment, social alienation,infrastructuraldecay and loss of esteem among our people”.
