From Maduabuchi Nmeribeh, Kano
In his determination to fight the COVID-19 pandemic to standstill, Kano state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, while receiving the second jab of the COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday, passionately appealed to residents to not only go for the jabs, but also continue to strictly observe all the COVID-19 Protocols.
Ganduje who received the vaccine at Ante-Chamber, Government House, Kano, along with members of his cabinet and a number of Kano stakeholders, said his administration will not relent in its determination to terminate the dreaded pandemic from Kano state.
He miantained that his administration was ever ready to convert challenges posed by COVID-19, into opportunities.
The AUTHORITY recalls that Ganduje was among Governors who took the first jab of the vaccine, as soon as it arrived Nigeria few months ago.
The vaccine was administered to Ganduje by his personal Physician, Dr Fakhraddeen Yahaya Muhammad, with the support of Dr. Muhammad Nura Yahaya.
Ganduje urged Kano residents who were vaccinated earlier during the first vaccination exercise, to make themselves available for the second batch, so that they could get rid of the pandemic.
According to him, “COVID-19 was not a hereditary disease, but infectious disease. We developed the culture of avoiding the disease. And that should be more permanent in order to ensure sustainability in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.”
He added that, it was the second trench of the vaccination exercise, which combined both preventive and curative aspects of the exercise, pointing out that, “there is no doubt that COVID-19 is a big challenge.
“But we converted that challenge into opportunity. By showing our dexterity in the management of infectious diseases.
“The challenge we are converting into opportunity is to improve our health facilities. So that we can face any other challenge from any type of infectious disease.
“We must improve our facilities and must train our frontline health workers. So that they will be battle-ready for any type of infectious disease.”
Ganduje expressed happiness that people observed COVID-19 protocols during the Eid-Fitr prayer, which he said was allowed to take place as usual because of the correct statistics the state government had, “that there was drastic drop of the disease infection in the state during that period.
“I could remember when people were lamenting how could our dear state allow the Eid-Fitr prayer to take place. We knew what was obtained then in the statistics of the disease.
“While people observed protocols, and after we isolated the pandemic into Isolation Centre, then what else?”
