Umahi fires over 1000 appointees

Barely 24 hours Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, sacked 83 members of the state executive council, he has announced the dissolution of all Boards and Commissions.


Umahi made the announcement during a state wide broadcast to mark his six years in office at the Exco Chambers Old Government House Abakaliki.


Also dissolved were Management Committee members, Liaison Officers, Local Advisory Committee, in the 64 development Centers of the State and 171 wards.


Executive Assistants, Technical Assistants and Senior Technical Assistants to the governor were also sacked.


Commissions spared by the governor were Civil Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission, House of Assembly Commission, Ebonyi State Judiciary Commission and Ebonyi Independent Electoral Commission.


Umahi stated that some of those sacked have sympathy for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in the state.


He said there were agitations of some members of his Exco that they want to contest elections in 2023. “So we have to relieve them of their duties to enable them to prepare themselves for the 2023 elections,” he added.


He said that before the boards and commissions will be reconstituted once his government has ascertained those who are not contesting for any elections and are ready for governance.
