Dr Mrs Elsie Nonyelum Nwokolo, has emerged the new Chairperson of Women Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, WOWICAN. Anambra State chapter.

Dr Nwokolo is the wife of the Bishop on the Niger, Anglican Communion, Right Reverend Dr Owen
Nwokolo.

In her inauguration address, the Chairperson of WOWICAN, Anambra State, Dr Mrs Elsie Nonyelum Nwokolo, described the occasion as a moment of renewal and reaffirmation of commitment to faith and service.

She assured that the new executive will lead with integrity, humility, and courage, while fostering collaboration, mentorship, and capacity building among members.

She also called for programmes that would empower women and strengthen their voice in societal discourse.

WoWiCAN members are drawn from different Christian blocs across the state, thus marking a new chapter for the women association in the state as Dr Nwokolo shall drive the organization into relevance.

Bishop Nwokolo in his homily at Sharon House, GRA, Onitsha, venue of the inauguration of WoWiCAN,
charged christian women to embrace humility, unity, and purposeful service.

He tasked the women on service to humanity, unity and transformational attitudes even as he described the emergence of the new executive led by his wife as a divine commissioning at a critical moment in the nation’s history.

The Prelate emphasized that the leaders were chosen not for celebration but for service, urging them to prioritize unity in a country he said was deeply divided along various lines.

According to him, WoWiCAN possesses the capacity to foster national cohesion if its members remain committed to the unity which he said Christ prayed for.
“If we are not united, Christ will not be pleased, and the world will mock us,” he warned, stressing that the new executive must work diligently to unite christian women and, by extension, the wider society.

Drawing from biblical examples, the cleric highlighted the vital role of women in nation-building, citing figures such as Esther, Deborah, and Priscilla, and recalling that a woman was the first to witness the risen Christ.

He urged the women to emulate Christ’s humility, referencing His act of washing the disciples’ feet as a model for leadership.

Nwokolo further encouraged the women to avoid unhealthy comparisons and instead to promote cooperation, holiness, prayerfulness, diligence, transparency, and love, charging them to ensure that their impact endured beyond their tenure.
