Electricity bill: UNN pays N80m to EEDC – VC

The Vice  chancellor of University of Nigeria Nsukka,Professor Charles Igwe, yesterday lamented that his administration pays an aveage of eighty million naira(N80) for sustenance of electric supply at the three campuses of the university to EEDC(Enugu Electricity Distribution center.

The three capuses of the Uiversity includes the Nsukka campus(UNN) the  Enugu campus(UNEC) and the Ituku Ozalla teaching hospital.He revealed that the huge monthly electricity bill is in addition to the cost of buying diesels for the university Generators ensure that the students have access to unlimited power supply to enhance their studies.

He discleised that a way out of the burden is what drove the school authority to come up with the innovation of "waste to wealth" gasification project as alternative means of generating additional electricity in the university.

He stated,"We are currently building a 500KVA gasification plant which is expected to mitigate energy challenges within the administrative blick and it's surroundings at the Nsukka campus of the university".

He described the UNN 500KVA gasification project which he inherited from his predeccessor as real and on going being executed by the head of department of electrical engineering,in which all the expertise are being handled and provided by the university itself but lamented that lack of funds is what is delaying the completion of the project.

The UNN Vice chancelor,Professor Charles Ugwu,who made the startling revelation at a press conference to mark the 49th Convocation of university of Nigeria Nsukka,disclised that a total of 11,010 graduates of the university will be awarded first degrees and diplomas of the institution on Friday,June 11.While 3,497 graduands will earn post graduate degrees and diplomas of the university.

The UNN will also confer honorary doctorate degrees on four eminent Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in chosen careers and service to humanity. They are Alhaji Dr Mohammed Indimi,,Mrs Nnenna MaryAnn,,Engineer Anthony Oguike as part of it's 49th convocation events.The ministrr of Transport,Mr Rotimi Amaechi will deliver the UNN convocation lecture on Thursday,June 10,at Nsukka campus of the university.
